Today we have Heather Toth on the blog from Cruise Planners! She is a travel advisor who is going to give us her best tips to keep in mind for you next vacation.
Heather: I think the first thing I want to tell you is that if you are going out of the country, you need to look at your passport. A lot of people don’t realize that if you are going to a foreign country, a lot of times your passport has to be good for six months past your travel date. Six months, or you will be denied entry into the country!
Lisa: I had a fun time learning this the hard way! I discovered this a few days before going into Europe, what has to happen is that you have to go to 1 of 20 cities, we chose Minneapolis. You ask for an expedited passport, and they won’t tell you how long it will take. It may take 6 hours, it make take 3 days. You just have to show up there and beg! The world needs to know this, your passport MUST be valid for 6 months after your travel dates.
Heather: Yes, not for every country but for a lot of countries. The next big one I want to talk about is travel insurance. A lot of people think, “Oh, I’ll never cancel this trip, there is no reason for me to buy travel insurance.” While that might be true, that you don’t intend to cancel the trip things come up! Illness, hurricanes, inclement weather…it happens more than you think.
Lisa: Yes and the reason I now buy travel insurance, I had a scary experience, we had a huge medical issue the day my family was suppose to leave for Europe. If you get sick outside of the country…
Heather: …your health insurance is not valid. Most people do not know this! You can get a very small, minimum policy reasonably priced to get medical coverage when you travel. You’ll be covered for that, emergency evacuation, lost luggage and more.
Lisa: Yes, very good. Can I give us travel tip #3?
Heather: Go for it.
Lisa: Take a cruise! Heather and I love cruises totally have this in common. I think I’ve been on 13 cruises…what’s your favorite line?
Heather: My favorite line is Norwegian. I have 5 kids and it’s great there is something for everyone. I also think they have the best value because they offer “Free at Sea” so depending on what kind of a room you are getting you can get free drinks, free tips, and various other things.
Lisa: Yes, those free drinks are nice!
Heather: I also really like Princess, though and I know you like that one too.
Lisa: Yes! I’m a huge fan, when the horn goes off and they play the ‘Love Boat’ song, tears come to my eyes! So take a cruise, work hard play hard, it can bring a lot of joy to your family.
