Today I want to talk about what inspires me. I have had some great mentors in my life, and I’m so thankful for all the people who have brought me to the place where I am today. One of my favorite songs is God of the Hills, God of the Valleys. In that song it talks about how you didn’t get to the mountain top alone. It’s so true and it makes me emotional just to think about. There are days where I think I have said to myself, or led people to believe, my strong work ethic has gotten me where I am. But really what has brought me to this place in addition to God, is the support of great people around me.
When I think of mentors, I want to mention one in particular is Christine Gallagher. I met her when I was 15. Shy, awkward, no confidence, didn’t feel like I had that much going for me. I started in the telemarketing industry and Christine told me that I had something special about me. She led me to believe that I could really sell, I had a lot of enthusiasm, and passion and a great voice.
And I believed her. She told me I could do things and I went on to train, supervise, and manage at the company.
She introduced me to great coaches like Zig Ziglar, and Og Mandino who wrote The Greatest Salesmen in the World (my favorite book besides the Bible). I’m grateful for all the people in my life who’ve brought me to the mountain top. My husband, my children, my staff and coworkers, I am so thankful for them.
The other thing that inspires me besides people and music on KLove is listening to podcasts, I start out my day with Darren Daily, that is the best 2-3 minutes that you can spend.
I am going to let you in on a secret, one of the weird things I do that inspires me is that I stretch every morning. And as I stretch, I am repeating to myself that I want to grow and learn and be better. That I want to give this day to others and be the best version of myself. One of the things I’ve learned in my research is that if you do a physical activity with good thoughts, that it’s more powerful and retained better. So start your day with moving your body and thinking positive thoughts.
I hope I’ve given you some ideas, I know not all of them are for everyone, but thanking God and the people around me is what keeps me inspired. Shout out to God, my number 1 inspiration.
As always, my prayer for you is that you not just dream about the life you want to live, but you take the first step, and then the next, go out there and make it happen.
