“Lisa Ritter is a knowledgeable, dedicated real estate professional. Lisa has experience in all aspects of buying and selling, including management and training of other realtors. Lisa is a straight shooter all the way. She means to keep each customer for life, and she does that by being honest with us about what we want, what we can afford, and what makes sense for our families.
When searching for my present home, I wondered why buyers would need an agent, anyway, as there is so much information available on the internet these days. But that’s one of the problems. Even before the internet, I made house-hunting miserable by refusing to limit my search in any way. Lisa helped me figure out what I wanted before I trucked all over town. She also suggested I view my present home again, even though I had already seen it and rejected it on MLS. This is the best home I have ever lived in and I wouldn’t have found it without Lisa.
Call Lisa if you’re considering getting in the market. A fabulous buyer’s agent like Lisa is the best bargain out there, providing you with immeasurable value and satisfaction.”

I’m here today with Kathy Roum, and she makes real estate dreams a reality as well in a much different way that I do.
Lisa: Tell me more about Habitat For Humanity.
Kathy: Absolutely, so Habitat Omaha started in 1984. And what we do is provide homes for low income families. One of the ways I love to make real estate dreams come true is through our Global Village Program. We get a group of volunteers together, sign up and go on an adventure and I’m the team leader. What it looks like this year, is that April 7th-15th, I am going Trinidad and Tobago.
I will take a team of about 14 people with me, and we will go beyond the ground — I always call it travel with a purpose. You get that tourism piece but you also get to see a country like you’ve never seen it before. You get to get in, interact with the local folks and the villages, and work side by side with them.
So we will build houses while we’re there.
Lisa: I just love your organization, and I’ve heard you say it a lot: “You give a hand up, not a hand out.” And I think that is such a beautiful thing, so thank for you all your work.
Kathy: So if you want to sign up for our Trinidad and Tobago trip, you can go to our website, www. HabitatOmaha.org. Send in information and we’ll contact you!
There is a fundraising challenge that you sign up and agree to do. So for this trip it’s $2,900 but what that includes is almost everything for your excursion: Airfare, ground transportation, room and board, meals, plus a donation to that Habitat affiliate to buy the building materials and build the houses while you’re there. We can set you up with a fundraising webpage to help you get your costs covered.
Lisa: And you make real estate dreams a reality!

“I highly recommend Lisa Ritter to anyone who expects the best. In my many years of working with her I saw first hand her work ethic, her passion and her desire to make her customers thrilled with the service that she provides. In our current real estate market buyers and sellers need someone to represent them that are polished, professional and have the ability to negotiate to get the best deal. Lisa is all that and then some!”

Today I want to talk about how a successful realtor spends their day, and it may not be what you think! A lot of people think that all we do is home shopping all day, there is a lot more to it! Here is what I’ve learned from being in the industry over the years…
We are some of the highest paid, unlicensed counselors that ever lived. When you look at the job that way, you should be really careful about who you hire! Make sure that your values match, because you really are putting a lot of trust into that person’s hands.
A really successful realtor spends their day learning as part of it. Everyday I spend 20-30 minutes to some kind of life development, I’m really stretching to learn a new concept or feeding my mind with positive input. Darren Hardy, Marie Forleo, Zig Ziglar….those are a few of my favorites. I’ll listen to podcasts, read blogs, anything I can get my hands on to be mentally fed…to put my head in the right direction. I really genuinely believe I’m helping people lead their lives, not just shopping for a home.
A successful realtor also spends a good part of their day networking and building their relationships. Not only new customers, but affiliates and their peers. The reason that we get to know affiliates is because we have to know who to trust and who not to trust. There is good service and bad service in every industry and I want to know those peoples hearts and minds before I recommend them to you. I spend time getting to know my affiliates and peers so I can know what it’s like to do a transaction with them, and I also want to learn new and creative ideas. And I want them to know my heart too, so that when we’re putting a deal together…everyone wins.
And the other part of our day should be spent on contracts and negotiating. Doing those negotiations accurately and professionally, it matters. The details matter, the paperwork matters, and I spend a fair amount of my day following up and checking on those details. Anyone can put a transaction together, it’s getting it to closing and making it happen.
A good realtor has balance! It’s not just always showing homes, not always doing paperwork. If you are new to the industry, make sure that you are feeding your mind everyday, that you are building relationships with the right people, make sure that you’re doing your negotiations properly AND following up.
If you are a consumer and you’re interviewing for agents..ASK how they spend their time! What is their job like? It will help you understand who you want to put your trust in.

Today I’m excited to be here with Justin Lorimer! We recently celebrated our 6th annual Christmas party, and I was able to name Justin as Top Performer of REMAX/Results. He has a great story, so I sat down with him today to share it.
Justin: Thanks Lisa! My story starts when I was in the automotive field, I was in management of the service department at Lexus. I really learned how to take care of people working there. Then I got into the entrepreneur world, started a business with another partner, you know the passion wasn’t there in that business but I got the entrepreneur bug. I knew that going back to a job that I would clock in and clock out was just not the thing for me. Having owned my own home for 13 years, I knew that was a super cool thing to do and I wanted to be able to help other people do that.
Lisa: Yes, one of the values that I try to instill is that we’re not just here to do a transaction, we’re here to change lives for the better and I knew you’d take that to heart. What’s the biggest surprise about this business?
Justin: The biggest surprise is how much fun we can have during the process. Selling and buying a house is so stressful, if we keep a light heart and have some fun it makes the client’s experience so much better.
Lisa: For sure. What’s the hardest part?
Justin: I think the hardest part just like any entrepreneur is getting used to the roller coaster. When you own your own business if you’re not selling homes or not helping people, you’re not getting paid. Getting use to that roller coaster of how business cycles is hard. But if you save and budget well, you’ll do just fine.
Lisa: I had a mentor, Bonnie Woods from CBS Home she’s a remarkable lady, I asked, “”What’s your number 1 piece of advice?” And she told me, “Stay consistent. Be who you are, don’t let the highs be too high and the lows be to low.”
Justin: I would agree with that.
Lisa: What advice would you give to a consumer if they’re searching for an agent?
Justin: I think the most important thing is going back to the code of ethics: a realtor who will put your needs above their own. There’s a lot of folks out there looking for their next deal, that’s not my philosophy. My philosophy is to find people a home. I’m always going to do what’s best for them and we make sure they’ll get the best outcome they can get.
Lisa: And for someone who’s thinking about being a realtor?
Justin: It’s a lot of fun! The most important thing to me was finding a good mentor. A mentor that knew the business and could train you to get off on the right foot.
