Today I’m excited to be here with Justin Lorimer! We recently celebrated our 6th annual Christmas party, and I was able to name Justin as Top Performer of REMAX/Results. He has a great story, so I sat down with him today to share it.
Justin: Thanks Lisa! My story starts when I was in the automotive field, I was in management of the service department at Lexus. I really learned how to take care of people working there. Then I got into the entrepreneur world, started a business with another partner, you know the passion wasn’t there in that business but I got the entrepreneur bug. I knew that going back to a job that I would clock in and clock out was just not the thing for me. Having owned my own home for 13 years, I knew that was a super cool thing to do and I wanted to be able to help other people do that.
Lisa: Yes, one of the values that I try to instill is that we’re not just here to do a transaction, we’re here to change lives for the better and I knew you’d take that to heart. What’s the biggest surprise about this business?
Justin: The biggest surprise is how much fun we can have during the process. Selling and buying a house is so stressful, if we keep a light heart and have some fun it makes the client’s experience so much better.
Lisa: For sure. What’s the hardest part?
Justin: I think the hardest part just like any entrepreneur is getting used to the roller coaster. When you own your own business if you’re not selling homes or not helping people, you’re not getting paid. Getting use to that roller coaster of how business cycles is hard. But if you save and budget well, you’ll do just fine.
Lisa: I had a mentor, Bonnie Woods from CBS Home she’s a remarkable lady, I asked, “”What’s your number 1 piece of advice?” And she told me, “Stay consistent. Be who you are, don’t let the highs be too high and the lows be to low.”
Justin: I would agree with that.
Lisa: What advice would you give to a consumer if they’re searching for an agent?
Justin: I think the most important thing is going back to the code of ethics: a realtor who will put your needs above their own. There’s a lot of folks out there looking for their next deal, that’s not my philosophy. My philosophy is to find people a home. I’m always going to do what’s best for them and we make sure they’ll get the best outcome they can get.
Lisa: And for someone who’s thinking about being a realtor?
Justin: It’s a lot of fun! The most important thing to me was finding a good mentor. A mentor that knew the business and could train you to get off on the right foot.
